We both brought years of experience in design and construction before landing in Raleigh. We had each dreamed of starting our own business one day — and when we met, it became clear we could make that dream a reality. With our combined backgrounds in design and construction, Newcomb Design & Build felt like a natural next step. We built this company around a simple idea: one team handling both design and construction, so our clients don't have to manage two separate trades. When your designer and your contractor are under the same roof, communication is easier, coordination is seamless, and there's less risk of the vision getting lost along the way. One team that designs, sources, builds, and installs — so nothing gets lost in translation.
After earning her Interior Design degree from Syracuse University, Cristina spent over eight years at a commercial architectural firm in New York City — leading full-scale renovations, developing detailed construction documents, specifying furniture and finishes, and coordinating closely with contractors. That experience gave her a sharp eye for the technical details that make a project come together, and a deep understanding of how design and construction need to work hand in hand. In 2023, she moved to Raleigh with her family looking for a fresh start. She met Josh that same year, and the business they'd each been dreaming about suddenly had the right partner. She holds the NCIDQ certification and brings the same level of detail to residential projects that she built over eight years of commercial work in New York.

Growing up in Houston, Josh got his first taste of construction helping with home renovations around the neighborhood. He went on to study civil engineering at UAB and earned a Master's at Auburn before starting his career as an estimator — where he learned how every dollar gets spent on a project. From there he moved into project management at one of the largest general contractors in the Southeast, spending five years managing healthcare construction that demanded strict timelines and zero margin for error. When he moved to Raleigh, he shifted into hospitality and then residential work — bringing that same discipline to the homes he builds today.
Every project starts with listening. We want to understand how you live and what your home should feel like — before we source a single swatch.
The best designs come from understanding each other. We hear you — not just in the first meeting, but through every decision.
We don't compromise on materials, craftsmanship, or detail. What's behind the walls matters as much as what's in front of them.
Trends inform our work. They don't drive it. We design spaces that feel right today and still feel right in a decade.
